The new Post and Bits exhibition tells the story of the communicating Finn and Finnish postal services.

How have messages traveled in the past, how do they travel now, and how will they travel in the future? The Post and Bytes exhibition invites a wide range of visitors to marvel at something familiar to us all, yet something we rarely stop to reflect on: communication. The exhibition guides visitors through the history of communication, where the written word, sound, image, and digital forms intertwine. At the same time, the development of data transmission and telecommunications unfolds as part of human interaction.

A message needs a carrier. The postal service has played an important role in the everyday lives of Finns for nearly 400 years. The exhibition reveals what kind of work has been required to deliver messages to their destinations.

In this interactive exhibition, you can try things out and learn for yourself. You can sit in an old postal van, play a sorting game, listen to the stories of a parcel locker, and see yourself in different communication professions. You can also reflect on differences in communication between generations. How did your grandparents communicate when they were young?

The Post and Bytes exhibition has been created in collaboration with Museum Centre Vapriikki. A diverse whole has been formed from the collections of the Postal Museum and the Tampere Historical Museums.

Accessibility has been given special attention. The exhibition includes easy-to-read language, Braille, and objects that can be touched. Public engagement activities use a unique LEGO Braille Bricks set to explore diverse forms of communication.

Welcome to explore the journey of messages!

Museum with national responsibility

The exhibition is connected to the Postal Museum’s national responsibility (called Logi) themes: communication, postal services, and digital life. The Postal Museum carries out this task in cooperation with Vapriikki.

Postal history online

You can also explore the history of the postal service and postal workers digitally in the Messengers online exhibition.
