Always on the move – Postal vehicles
The methods of postal transport have always changed and developed with the development of means of transport.
In the early days of the Post in the 17th and 18th centuries, transport was based on horse and water routes and cart paths. Railways accelerated the movement of postal items, goods and people in a developing society in the late 19th century. In the decades before the wars, postal items took to the air and on rubber wheels for the first time. However, it was only after the wars that air and road transport became more common.
Today, postal items are transported between logistic centres in Finland by trucks and to mailboxes and door openings by delivery vehicles or light vehicles, such as cargo scooters, bicycles or delivery carts. These means of transport are environmentally friendly and run on electricity, biogas and hydrogen. Posti aims to be fossil-free by 2030.
The exhibition focuses in particular on Posti’s motor vehicle transport.
