Do you have any mementos from Tove Jansson?
Greetings from Tove
Do you have any letters, drawings or other mementos from Tove Jansson? Take part in a collection organised by the Postal Museum and promote the arts!
Tove Jansson (1914–2001) was a prolific letter writer all her life. She also wrote short stories and other texts throughout her life and became known for her books about the Moomins. Her final decades, she devoted almost entirely to literature aimed at adults.
During Tove Jansson’s time, letters were a natural way for people to keep in touch as electronic media either did not exist or was expensive to use. When translations of the Moomin books were published in different parts of the world in the 1950s and 1960s, the number of people who contacted Jansson grew and her correspondence became international.
Tove Jansson used to remember her fans by sending them letters and giving them drawings when they met. These letters, drawings and other mementos must have been, and remain, unique and important to their recipients.
